Philosophy of Swami Vivekananda

Swami Vivekananda (January 12, 1863 - July 4, 1902) is considered as one of the most influential educationist and spiritual thinker of India. Vivekananda’s personality was notable for its comprehensiveness and deep sensitiveness to the evils prevalent in the socio-economic and moral structure of the country. He preached both monistic asceticism and social service. His intellectual vision was immensely clear and he could easily penetrate into the currents and cross-currents that were manifested in the history of India.

Thus to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, Centre for Positive Philosophy and Interdisciplinary Studies (CPPIS) publishing this book and it is a tribute to this Universal Man and a National Ideal for Youth. It is the general intention of the Centre to produce informative as well as positive literature to inspire and motivate the students and the general reader. We extend our thanks to the members of Milestone Education Society (Regd.) Pehowa for their valuable suggestions and positive assistance towards CPPIS works.

The 21st Century has been acknowledged as the 'Knowledge Century'. Every nation now finds itself operating in an increasingly competitive and globalised environment where the information, infrastructure, research and innovation systems, education and lifelong learning, and regulatory frameworks are crucial variables. In the words of Dr. Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister of India, “The time has come to create a second wave of institution building, and of excellence, in the fields of education, research and capability building so that we are better prepared for the 21st Century.” Since India’s independence, there has been a persistent demand on behalf of the country’s intellectuals, expressed in different professional, philosophical and non-philosophical fora, to re-examine both ancient and modern philosophical systems to evaluate them and derive from them new directives for today’s changing conditions and there is a definite impetus and a sense of need towards an independent Indian philosophical identity to reinforce research and philosophical studies in India at different levels.

Each step in the journey of human development adds new bench marks in it. I am working through Society for Positive Philosophy and Interdisciplinary Studies (SPPIS) Haryana since 2008. For me the meaning of Positive Philosophy is to achieve an intellectual detachment from all philosophical systems, and not only to solve specific philosophical problems, but also to become sensitively aware of what we do when have we philosophized. An Interdisciplinary Study is a field of study that crosses traditional boundaries between academic disciplines or schools of thought, as new needs and professions have emerged. Originally the term interdisciplinary is applied within education and training pedagogies to describe studies that use methods and insights of several established disciplines or traditional fields of study.

I think that in order to reach at the goal of creating “knowledge society”, the majority of the people in India must be helped to overcome ‘information poverty.’ The deprived peoples be given access to relevant and timely information and knowledge to address the roles they should play in the development process and in our society we are also working to erase information poverty related to philosophy discipline in India. It is painful situation that in India, philosophy is not more than a religious thinking for academic and non academic persons and no clear difference between study and teaching. So we should try to change our mental set and go for its practical implications. This is a reflection of my thoughts which are not complete yet it is my intention to get your response. I will be happy to get your comments, suggestions and will try to improve this work accordingly.

Positive Philosophy for Contemporary Indian Society has three chapters to read i.e. (i) Meaning of Positive Philosophy which deals with the conception of Positive Philosophy and Methodology, (ii) Nature of Philosophy in General which discuss about general conception of philosophy , methods of study and writing philosophy, and (iii) Philosophy of Social Change which discuss the need of Indian Model of Philosophy of Social Change and in the end there is a concluding remarks.

While going through this work, reader should not expect to find any final answer to the problems raised. This is not what philosophy aims at. In our country, there is an urgent need of those peoples who can think positively about humanities and social sciences for the growth of society and can make nation more competent with intellectual development. I would like to thank all friends and members of SPPIS, Haryana for their support and inspirational words.

I am very happy that you are doing positive philosophy. I really appreciate your attempts, but one thing what is meaning of positive philosophy.

Is it only for academic philosophers or for every common man?

Is it related to making philosophy positive or making philosopher positive?

Is it related to do something positive?

Is there any negative philosophy also?

Is there any limitation for u regarding the subject matter of philosophy which is not positive.

Thanks for your meaningful questions. I am trying to answer these for our understanding about Positive Philosophy.

1. When I discuss about it, I have a single criteria for positive philosophy i.e. if it to be acceptable to all reasonable people of the world. In defining Positive Philosophy it may be said, The Positive Philosophy is an attempt to achieve an intellectual detachment from all philosophical systems, and not to solve specific philosophical problems, but to become sensitively aware of what it is we do when we philosophize.

2. It is an attitude as well as a methodology for both academician and common person.

3. It make philosophy in India Positive so that it can make something useful for societal growth and in working process it also make the person aware.

4. I am not negating something, here Positive word is not an antonym but it is an adjective. Where there are merely religious, metaphysical speculations and passive ideologies, we left it behind because they are not useful so far। Positive Philosophy is working on that issues which have some worth for human. It is a process to do something creative.

We are using innovative method. An innovator could be rebellion because he breaks the established method, norms and redefines the layer of thought. Innovation not simply implies questioning, reshaping,restricting but also developing through transformation.

Once one becomes habitual to this attitude he-she will be ready to do some positive or creative.

1.Science grows out of doubt. Religion grows out of wonder. Between the two is philosophy; it has not yet decided -- it goes on hanging between doubt and wonder. Sometimes the philosopher doubts and sometimes the philosopher wonders: he is just in between. If he doubts too much, by and by he becomes a scientist. If he wonders too much, by and by he becomes religious. That's why philosophy is disappearing from the world -- because ninety-nine percent of philosophers have become scientists. And one person -- a Buber somewhere, or a Krishnamurti somewhere, or a Suzuki somewhere -- great minds, great penetrating intellects, they have become religious. Philosophy is almost losing its ground.

2.Beware of getting lost in philosophy and religion if you really want to know what truth is. Beware of being Christian, Hindu, Mohammedan, because they are all ways of being deaf, blind, insensitive.

...oh, personally I shall take heed of your wise counsel. I always figured science to be based on current assumptions and religion to be based on acknowledgment that one exists among others and not in a vacuum.

I would have thought that you will put philosophy in the middle but you concluded by placing it on the extreme of religion. Your initial assertion placed philosophy between religion and science, I do not believe that this is the way you wanted to conclude your argument or is it?

Sir thanks for your consideration. Actually the mentioned person is a spiritual thinker. They always think that if we want to know the reality you have to go byond the boundation whether it is science, philosophy or religion. Above mentioned thoughts of a thinker. I somewhat agree with these because philosophers in 20th century went to extreme. Some philosopher become highly conscious about science or some religious. They forget the real philosophical spirit because philosophy gives both science and religion, a platform to justify their believes. I dont want to undermine philosophy because when you are a philosopher you have to deal with both for a synthetic view.

...I believe philosophy to be the use of reason and argument in seeking the truth as well as knowledge of reality. I mean in studying causes and nature of things as well as principles governing existence and one ends up being swayed either way, it should NOT mean that you are being scientific or religious. It just means on the issue under discussion, the pendulum had swung that way.

I believe it comes with the territory in the same way as a laborer gets blisters. I mean as a thinker you find yourself swimming against stream, what with majority of people in our midst occupying either camp.

My intention here is not to be defensive but to be realistic.

You are right Sir. But I myself feel that the popular account for philosophy is ununderstandable by general peoples. In India, mostly time philosophy confused with religion and it get no independent identity. What I said above about philosophy is only realtively with science and religion. Not the what really philosophy, I meant. Philosophy for me is a critical evaluation of ideas and their implication in human life. I usually use when I mean philosophy. Philosophy become relative when it associated with other terms as discussed before.Meta Philosophy must be concentrated while study or discuss. Thanks

...It has occurred to me that some religions are more of a way of life than a religion. It could be the situation in India and hence the inability to separate religion from philosophy. Under such circumstances, only those that dare question current working assumptions are those that are immune to public opinion and are less likely to contemplate being castigated by society. But then again a greater number of them are living in exile. This would be some of friends who had been friendly to books and knowledge for a considerable time

In the other half of the world philosophy can be easily divorced from religion. Take christianity as an example, there are hundred variations of the same. The African version exist parallel to African ideas and way of life. In seeking the truth, I therefore have to dig deeper, and apply my mind to all that cross my path.

One needs a lot of information and facts to explore working assumptions. This means actual time and money spent seeking knowledge. Giving up is easy but in this quest giving is never an option!

About general people, I am sorry but I don't think philosophy is a general subject. And if one has to influence their way of thinking, one should go an extra mile.

Thanks for your visit Sir. Mainly we want to work on applied philosophy, metaphilosophy, positive philosophy, indian pschology and interdisciplinary studies. It is basically indian concentration but have international philosophical approach. We are working for applied aspect of philosophy in students, mass and with academicians as well. Its our wish that we will be able to do according to our intentions, today we need to work on humanities and social sciences.

Technically said that social change refers to an alteration in the social order of a social group or society; a change in the nature, social institutions, social behaviours or social relations of a society. As we know Change is inevitable and it takes place in all fields. The term “social change” is often used to describe variations in, or, modifications of any respect of social process, social patterns, social interaction or social organization. Great thinkers emerged from various societies induce social change in different times.

In our Indian tradition too, we can find a lot of discussion and many thinkers as we are see our historical perspective and also diversity of thoughts in our literature. There are many concepts available for social change. We always discuss about Gandhi, Ambekar, Bhagat Singh, Marx etc. in this respect. But the problem is that they always try to drag the society towards their fundamental aim. If we see our situation we can easily find diverse ideologies with different interest and aims, also its effect to our national integrity and social security. India has seen many reformers from time to time since the Scholastic Period, Bhakti movement to technological movement in present time. Some of them have been from intellectual front and others from religious realm but there is a need of political front too. Which ideology or theory is more relevant in today’s world ?

When we see discussion from political parties about Gandhi, Ambedkar, Bhagat Singh and Marx, it become vain when we see their practical character in our day to day discourse, newspaper etc. The present world has become a global village due to the growth of information technology, but Indian intellectuals are somewhat infant in their side as they are not using their skills to think something better. Intellectuals feel comfortable to get a discussion in seminars; conferences, workshop etc. and nothing produce socially relevant material. So, we need to find a common, universal, integrated philosophy to guide the entire Indian society and global village.

It is true that individual societies might have their own dogmas, which cannot be replaced by another societies thought. But when they interact with a global surface they need to accept the need of an integral theory and practice. How many thinkers become national ideals after independence for youth and new generation? This is a matter of thinking.

In their academic life students are struggling with lots of questions, they might to answer about their future life. Reports on Higher Education performed their duty well but when the time of their implementation come lots of problems come around. It is Integral philosophy envelops multiple endeavors of promoting physical, intellectual, moral spiritual and social values as many thinkers discussed in present time too. For this society must be able to cover the entire human condition and the totality of the human personality. Then the discussion about theories of social comes to its relevance in present time.

Social change is a very basic term and must be assigned further context. It may refer to the notion of social progress or sociocultural evolution; the philosophical idea that society moves forward by dialectical or evolutionary means. It may refer to a paradigmatic change in the socio-economic structure, for instance a shift away from feudalism and towards capitalism. Accordingly it may also refer to social revolution, such as the Communist revolution presented in Marxism, or to other social movements, such as Women's suffrage or the Civil rights movement. Social change may be driven by cultural, religious, economic, scientific or technological forces.

In the West we can find Hegelian, Marxist, Kuhnian, Heraclitan, Daoist (The Chinese philosophical work Dao De Jing) and Resource-based economy(Jacque Fresco's concept of a resource-based economy) models for social change. Now it is time to develop an Indian model of social change which can be helpful to get a integrated conception of social, economical, political and religious progress as our general Indian philosophy want to develop.

PROFESSIONAL ETHICS AND MORALITY

Introduction

Meaning of Professional Ethics

Professional Ethics is partly comprised of what a professional should or should not do in the work -place. It also encompasses a much greater part of the professional’s life. If a professional is to have ethics then that person needs to adopt that conduct in all of his dealings. Another aspect of this is the enhancement of the profession and the industry within which the professional works.

Use of the word “Morality”

The term “morality” can be used either (1) descriptively to refer to a code of conduct put forward by a society or, (a) some other group, such as a religion, or (b) accepted by an individual for his/her own behavior, (2) normatively to refer to a code of conduct that, given specified conditions, would be put forward by all rational persons.

Definition of Morality

“Morality is an informal public system applying to all rational persons, governing behavior that affects others, and has the lessening of evil or harm as its goal.”

Ethics in different Professions

All persons, whether in business, government, educational institutes, or any other professions are concerned with ethics. Encyclopedia of Social Sciences defines ethics as “the organization or criticism of conduct in terms of notions like, good, right or welfare… Ethics is the secular and critical manner of taking account of the rationalizing process in human conduct. Its temper is non-mystical, and its orientation is social rather than theological.”

Implementation of Ethical Codes in Organizations

Theodore Parcel and James Weber suggest that this can be accomplished in three ways:

n by establishing appropriate company policy or a code of ethics.
n by using a formally appointed ethics committee.
n by teaching ethics in management development programmes.

The most common way to institutionalize ethics is to establish a code of ethics; much less common is the use of ethics board committees.

Difference between Professional Ethics and Morality

Morals or moral values are generally associated with personal view of values. Which reflect beliefs relating to sex, drinking, gambling, etc. They can reflect the influence of religion, culture, family and friends. Ethics is concerned with how a moral person should behave. Ethical values are beliefs concerning what is morally right and proper as opposed to what is simply correct or effective.

Code of Professional Ethics
A Code is a statement of policies, principles or rules that guide behaviour. Certainly, codes of ethics do not apply only to business enterprises, but they should guide the behaviour of persons in all organizations and in every life, so that we named it “Professional Ethics”. In the present time, every profession has its own codes, to practise by their professionals.

Example
For example, The Psychological Society of Ireland consists four overall ethical principles, in their code, which subsume a large number of specific ethical standards. These are given below:

Principle 1: Respect for the rights and dignity of the person
Principle 2: Competence
Principle 3: Responsibility
Principle 4. Integrity

The Future of Professional Ethics
Computer Societies around the world such as the IEEE and national bodies in Australia, Singapore, the UK and other countries have on their websites professional codes of ethics to consider and adopt in the way professionals conduct themselves in and out of the work place. Personal ethics, morality, and integrity will strongly influence a person’s professional ethical conduct. Integrity means wholeness or completeness—continuity of life in all its actions. We must not delude ourselves or the people we lead by thinking that we can practice conduct.

Conclusion
This paper may conclude with some ancient sayings which reflect the previous discussion of Professional Ethics and Morality in the present time: “When one sees all beings in his own self and his own Self in all beings, one loses all fear।” “When one sees this great Unity and the self has become all beings, no sorrow can afflict him.” (Isha Upanishad).

दर्शन की परिभाषा

दर्शन की कोई निश्चित परिभाषा देना काफी कठिन है लेकिन फिर भी बिना परिभाषा के किसी भी विज्ञानं या समाज विज्ञानं के अर्थ को नही समझा जा सकता। इस लेख में हम दर्शन की एक परिभाषा का विश्लेषण करेंगे।
"अनवरत और प्रयत्नशील चिंतन की बौधिक व्याख्या और उसके मूल्याङ्कन का प्रयास दर्शन कहलाता है।"
उपरोक्त परिभाषा में बहुत सी कठिनाइयाँ हें। इनको समझने से पहले हमें इसके विभिन्न घटकों को देखना होगा।

अनवरत शब्द का अर्थ है, लगातार /परम्परा से। लेकिन यहाँ पर अपवाद है की जब कोई दार्शनिक सोचता है, शायद वह कुछ नया दे दे । अत: यह शब्द सार्थक तो है, लेकिन परिभाषा में अनावश्यक है।

प्रयत्नशील चिंतन :
चिंतन दो प्रकार का है:
१ स्वाभाविक चिंतन (thinking without efforts) जैसे- मन में ख्यालों का चलना।
२ प्रयत्नशील चिन्तन ( thinking with efforts) - कोशिश द्वारा अर्थात जिसमे क्रमानुसार प्रक्रिया होती है। लेकिन ऐसा चिंतन बौधिक ही है। अत: इसको अलग कहने की आवश्यकता नहीं है। साथ ही केवल दर्शन ही नही अन्य विज्ञानों में भी प्रयत्नशील चिन्तन होता है और साथ में व्यावहारिक जीवन में हम कोई कम करने के लिए भी इसका इस्तेमाल करते है, लेकिन यह दर्शन नहीं है। जैसे यात्रा से पहले समय सारणी व कार्यक्रम बनाना।

चिन्तन के इस भेद को महत्वपूर्ण माना गया है। इसे तार्किक (logical) या प्रत्ययात्मक (conceptual) भेद कहा जाता है।

किसी भी परिभाषा को दो दोषों से रहित होना चाहिए -
१ अतिव्याप्ति दोष २ अव्याप्ति दोष

परिभाषा उस वस्तु के लक्षणों का मुख्यत: वर्णन करती है, लेकिन उपरोक्त परिभाषा की कमियों को हमें देखना होगा। अतिव्याप्ति दोष उसे कहते हैं, जिसमें लक्षण उस वस्तु के अलावा अन्य में भी रहते हैं जैसे 'गाय' उसे कहते ही, जिसके चार थन होते ही, इसमें अतिव्याप्ति दोष है , क्योंकि भैंस इत्यादि के भी ऐसा होता है।

अव्याप्ति दोष उसे कहते है, जिसमें लक्षण अव्याप्त होता है, यानि अपूर्ण होता है, जैसे 'गाय' उसे कहते है, जो सफ़ेद होती है। यह लक्षण भी पर्याप्त नही है, क्योंकि गाय काली, भूरी इत्यादि हो सकती है।

उपरोक्त परिभाषा में प्रयत्नशील चिन्तन अन्य विज्ञानों में भी ही। अत: अतिव्याप्ति दोष ही और बौधिक व्याख्या का ही अंग ही।

जो लक्षण दो वस्तुओं में भेद प्रकट कर , उन्हें स्पष्ट करता है वह व्यव्छेद्क धर्म (differentiating characterstic) कहलाता है। वह परिभाषा में होना चाहिए । वैशेषिक दर्शन में 'कर्म' के लिए 'गति' व्यावर्तक धर्म है, क्योंकि यह उसे अन्यों से भेद दिखलाती है क्योंकि जहाँ भी कर्म है, वहां गति है, जैसे हाथ हिलाना।

दर्शन की परिभाषा के लिए एक और गुण है, जो बहुत आवश्यक है, जिससे वह अन्य बौधिक व्याख्याओं या विज्ञानों से उसे अलग करता है, यह है- इन्द्रियानुभाव निरपेक्ष होना यानि इन्द्रियानुभाव से परे होना।

लेकिन यहाँ परशान उठता है की इन्द्रियानुभाव निरपेक्ष होना गणित और तर्कशास्त्र में भी पाया जाता है, फिर यहाँ अंतर क्या रह जाता है ?

उतर है- दर्शन मानव-जीवन के विविध पक्षों को लेकर चलता है, जबकि गणित इससे बहुत भिन्न होता है। advanced mathematics केवल अवधारनाओं से भरा है। अनुभूति का कोई स्थान नही। अत: दर्शन की परिभाषा निम्न दी जा सकती है-

"मानव-जीवन के विविध पक्षों का बौधिक -अव्धारनात्मक चिन्तन या ऐसे चिन्तन का आलोचनात्मक मूल्यांकन दर्शन है।" (Pure rational-conceptual thought regarding different aspects of human life or a critical thought over such kind of thoughts may be called as philosophy.)

दर्शन की अन्य विशेषता यह है की यह self- critical है। कहने का भाव यही है की दर्शन ही एक मात्र ऐसा विषय है, जो अपने स्वरूप के बारे में सोचता है। अन्य विषय ऐसा नही करते। जैसे :

इतिहास क्या है?

विज्ञानं क्या है?

गणित क्या है?

विधि क्या है?

दर्शन ही एक मात्र विषय है, जो इसके बारे चिन्तन करता है, यह सभी के स्वरूप की अवधारनाओं का अद्ध्यन करता है।

आस्तित्ववादी दार्शनिक इससे भिन्न विचार रखते है, वे कहते है की बुद्धि या तर्क से जब हम मानव जीवन से सम्बन्धित अवधारणों को समझने की कोशिस करते ही, तो उनकी आत्मा का हनन कर देते हैं-जैसे प्यार, नैतिकता, धर्म इत्यादि। वास्तव में आस्तित्व नही रखते, लेकिन इनको समझने के लिए हमें इन्हें जीना होगा। यदि ऐसा ही तो साहित्य और दर्शन में समानता है, लेकिन फिर इनमें अंतर क्या रह जाता है ? यह समझ नही आता। उपरोक्त विचार अल्बर्ट कामू, काफ़्का,सार्त्र इत्यादि के हैं।

PHILOSOPHY AND VALUES IN SCHOOL EDUCATION OF INDIA

ABSTRACT

In this paper an attempt is made to draw out the contemporary relevance of philosophy in school education of India. It includes some studies done in this field and also reports on philosophy by such agencies like UNESCO & NCERT. Many European countries emphasises on the above said theme. There are lots of work and research done by many philosophers on philosophy for children. Indian values system is different from the West and more important than others. Education has become a tool to achieve efficiency in all walks of human life whether social, political, religious or philosophical. Every nation started developing its own specific set of educational values. For India it is very necessary to increase philosophical thinking study and research. Philosophy could make significant contribution, particularly in relation to children’s moral development because the Indian curriculum currently neglects this aim. A teacher can play an important role in promoting this discussion because a teacher has the capacity to influence students with their thoughts and personality and engages them in these activities. Philosophy needs to be included in the curriculum and have demonstrated cognitive and social gains in children who were explored to philosophy in their schooling.

Introduction:
Communication skills are the ability to use language and express information. It is a process of transforming information from one entity to another. Communication is commonly defined as “the imparting or interchange of thoughts, opinions, or information by speech, writing, or signs”. While interviewing candidates, most interviewers judge them on the basis of the way they communicate. They believe that skills can be improvised on the job; but ability to communicate well is important, as every employee becomes the representing face of the company. While defining communication skills we can say, “Communication skills are the set of skills that enables a person to convey information so that it is received and understood. Communication skills refer to the repertoire of behaviors that serve to convey information for the individual.”
Positive Attitude:
Identification is one of the key ingredients of effective communication. In fact, unless your listeners can identify with what you are saying and with the way you are saying it, they are not likely to receive and understand your message.
Communication does not depend on syntax, or eloquence, or rhetoric, or articulation; but on the emotional context in which the message is being heard. People can only hear you when they are moving toward you, and they are not likely to when your words are pursuing them. Even the choicest words lose their power when they are used to overpower. Attitudes are the real figures of speech. Here are proverbs for worth consideration:
Many feel that this skill does not need any training, as every individual is able to communicate. Yes, every individual can communicate, but the problem is that every individual cannot effectively communicate.
“When we speak (or listen), our attention is focused on words rather than body language. But our judgement includes both. An audience is simultaneously processing both verbal and nonverbal cues. Body movements are not usually positive or negative in and of themselves; rather, the situation and the message will determine the appraisal.”
Those who do not have appropriate communication skills are usually ignored or simply kept at bay. Where are those with good communication skills are looked upon and well respected. After all a good listener and a good orator are popular in their groups - professional and personal.
It is basically two-way street, which entails the relation between the sender and the sender and the receiver. In this process, a cycle of communicating messages is formed between the sender and receiver. There are some barriers that occur while listening, speaking to avoid these barriers. One needs to overcome all language related barriers by first seeking how to learn English speaking. This is essential, because most people find it difficult to convey their thoughts, because of a strong influence of their national language, regional language and mother tongue.
Effective Communication Techniques:
I found a very interesting article on the effective communication skill techniques; I am using this article as a whole to introduce the reader. The link is given below in the suggested reading section. Read and follow the following tips:
Listen Actively
Be attentive - concentrate on what is being said.
Be impartial – don’t form an opinion, just listen.
Reflect back - restating what has been said helps the speaker know that you understand.
Summarize - pull together the important messages so that you and the speaker recognize what was important during the conversation.
Nonverbal Message
Posture - let your body show that you are interested by sitting up and leaning toward the speaker.
Equal positioning - if the speaker is standing, you stand. If the speaker is sitting, you sit as well.
Facial expression - remember that feelings are reflected in facial expressions.
Gestures - your body language reveals a lot about how you interpret a message, so be aware of when you send signals that might cause the speaker to believe that you are angry, in a hurry, bored, etc.
Express Thoughts and Feelings
Be open and honest - collaboration between parents and professionals begins with the understanding that you trust each other with all information.
Speak clearly - don't mumble and don't talk too quietly. If you don't know the word for something, describe what you mean so that you and the speaker can have a shared understanding of your concern or question.
Communicate Without Being Adversarial
Express concerns non-judgmentally - talk about your questions or concerns without blaming other people. For example, you might be angry that your child is not receiving enough speech therapy. Rather than talk about the speech therapist not doing his/her job, discuss your idea of how often your child should receive this service.
Use “I” messages. Rather than say, “You didn't explain that very well”, say, “I didn't understand what you just said. Please explain it again.”
Conclusion:
Now we are going to end up this discussion by summing up every individual needs to be well equipped with the tools to communicate effectively, whether it is on the personal; front, or at work. One can refer to the various English speaking books that will help them improve and also to overcome one can attend English speaking classes. Effective skills in communication calls for awareness and attentive listening.

The Positive Philosophy

This term “Positive Philosophy” is firstly used by August Comte. Course of Positive Philosophy was his first great work, and in it he propounds his theory that all institutions are based upon the ideas of men which are formed in three successive stages--theology, metaphysics and finally from the Positive. In the theological state, the human mind, seeking the essential nature of beings, the first and final causes (the origin and purpose) of all effects. In short, it is absolute knowledge -- supposes all phenomena to be produced by the immediate action of supernatural beings. In the metaphysical state, which is only a modification of the first, the mind supposes, instead of supernatural beings, abstract forces, veritable entities (that is, personified abstractions) inherent in all beings, and capable of producing all phenomena.

In the final, the positive state, “The mind has given over the vain search after absolute notions, the origin and destination of the universe, and the causes of phenomena, and applies itself to the study of their laws -- that is, their invariable relations of succession and resemblance. Reasoning and observation, duly combined, are the means of this knowledge. What is now understood when we speak of an explanation of facts is simply the establishment of a connection between single phenomena and some general facts, the number of which continually diminishes with the progress of science.” Comte’s rejection of traditional religion and metaphysics, his faith in science and progress has all had a strong and persistent influence on subsequent thought. But I am not here concentrating on the positivist revolution in the world of philosophy, but only that how philosophy becomes beneficial for non-academic persons. Here we are using this word as a useful philosophy for everyone and trying to leave those questions that are merely religious and metaphysical in nature.

What is the Need ?

The present status of philosophy as a useful discipline is in doubt. Here are some reasons for this. First, mainly in India philosophy is on the dominancy of religion so one can not make distinction between philosophy and religion. Mostly problems of philosophy are treated like religious problems and there is a lack of basic understanding between the nature of problems regarding philosophy and religion. We come to know from religious literature that its doctrines are supported either by reasoning or by revelation. Doctrines supported by reasoning unaided by revelation constitute metaphysics and fall in the domain of Philosophy, but doctrines based on revelation are to be excluded from philosophy, because revelation is supported to be a type of experience entirely different from the experiences that we as a matter of fact have. All metaphysical thinking is necessarily God-oriented. Here we need the criteria how far is it useful in dealing with matters in daily life. The teaching methods of philosophy used in institutions are not valuable as to understand the real nature of philosophy. So, here is a basic need of such healthy and positive attitude for philosophical inquiry, which is only concerned with the problems of human life and related to ordinary discourse of living. I have used the term Positive Philosophy for this. My object is to achieve an intellectual detachment from all philosophical systems, and not to solve specific philosophical problems, but to become sensitively aware of what it is we do when we philosophize.

"दर्शन के नाम पर भारत में एक ऐसी अबोद्दिकता का प्रचार किया जाता है जिसे अध्यातम का नाम देकर बुद्धि के अनंत आक्षेपों से बचाया जाता है। बात शब्द की नही है यदि दर्शन का अर्थ वही है जो ये लोग देते हैं; तो हमे उसके लिए कोई नया नाम खोजना पड़ेगा जिसका बुद्धि ही शेत्र है और तर्क जिसका प्राण है। शायद 'फिल्स्फा' उसके लिए अधिक उपुक्त शब्द हो। यह पुस्तक या पुस्तिका ......... इसी विश्वास पर आधारित है की जहाँ बुद्धि की बात नही है वहां दर्शन की बात करना फिजूल है। ध्यान लगाइए , घड्ताल बजाइए , प्राणायाम कीजिये ,योग साधिये, यह सब खुशी से कीजिये ,पर कम से कम इनको दर्शन की संज्ञा मत दीजिये। अलग- अलग चीजो को एक नाम से पुकारने से कोई लाभ नही है ।" - "ज्ञान मीमांसा" नामक किताब से ॥

Positive philosophy is Related to many streams of Philosophy :

Philosophy is characterized as much by its methods as by its subject matter. Although philosophers deal with speculative issues that generally are not subject to investigation through experimental test, and philosophy therefore is more fully conceptual than science, philosophy properly done is not mere speculation. Philosophers, just like scientists, formulate hypotheses which ultimately must answer to reason and evidence. This is one of the things that differentiate philosophy from poetry and mysticism, despite its not being a science. Positive philosophy is an interdisciplinary study approach of man’s life in their ordinary discourse that is related to Educational, Social, Environmental and Health issues. It will combined the problems of such disciplines like :

Applied Philosophy

The term "applied" simply means "to put into practice" or "to be used practically." From this use of the term "applied," we can formulate a general definition of applied philosophy: it is the application of those principles and concepts derived from and based on philosophy to a study of our practical affairs and activities. Notice that these principles and concepts are used to "study" our practical affairs. The reason why this is important is because applied knowledge is third-order philosophical knowledge and does not necessarily lead to a completed "truth" applicable to all times and places.

Applied Ethics
Applied ethics is a discipline of philosophy that attempts to apply 'theoretical' ethics, such as utilitarianism, social contract theory, and deontology, to real world dilemmas. Topics falling within the discipline include medical ethics, legal ethics, environmental ethics, computer ethics, corporate social responsibility, or business ethics.

Many considerations of applied ethics also come into play in human rights discussions.

Applied ethics seeks to engage formal ethics in attempts to solve actual dilemmas. In doing so, it illuminates the potential for disagreement over the way theories and principles should be applied. Strict, principle-based ethical approaches often result in solutions to specific problems that are not universally acceptable. Drawing on medical ethics for an example, a strict deontological approach would never permit the deception of a patient about their condition, whereas a utilitarian approach would involve consideration of the consequences of so doing, and might permit lying to a patient if the result of the deception was 'good'. The example demonstrates that a deontologist can derive a different solution to a dilemma than a utilitarian.

Social philosophy is the philosophical study of questions about social behavior (typically, of humans) Social philosophy addresses a wide range of subjects, from individual meanings to legitimacy of laws, from the social contract to criteria for revolution, from the functions of everyday actions to the effects of science on culture, from changes in human demographics to the collective order of a wasp's ness.

Political Philosophy

Political Philosophy is the study of fundamental questions about the state, government, politics, liberty, justice, property, rights, law and the enforcement of a legal code by authority: what they are, why (or even if) they are needed, what makes a government legitimate, what rights and freedoms it should protect and why, what form it should take and why, what the law is, and what duties citizens owe to a legitimate government, if any, and when it may be legitimately overthrown—if eve. In a vernacular sense, the term "political philosophy" often refers to a general view, or specific ethic, belief or attitude, about politics that does not necessarily belong to the technical discipline of philosophy.

Three central concerns of political philosophy have been the political economy by which property rights are defined and access to capital is regulated, the demands of justice in distribution and punishment, and the rules of truth and evidence that determine judgments in the law.

Philosophy of Literature

Strictly speaking, the philosophy of literature is a branch of aesthetics, the branch of philosophy that deals with the question, "what is art"? Much of aesthetic philosophy has traditionally focused on the plastic arts or music, however, at the expense of the verbal arts. In fact, much traditional discussion of aesthetic philosophy seeks to establish criteria of artistic quality that are indifferent to the subject matter being depicted. Since all literary works, almost by definition, contain notional content, aesthetic theories that rely on purely formal qualities tend to overlook literature.

The very existence of narrative raises philosophical issues. In narrative, a creator can embody, and readers be led to imagine, fictional characters, and even fantastic creatures or technologies. The ability of the human mind to imagine, and even to experience empathy with, these fictional characters is itself revealing about the nature of the human mind. Some fiction can be thought of as a sort of a thought experiment in ethics: they describe fictional characters, their motives, their actions, and the consequences of their actions. It is in this light that some philosophers have chosen various narrative forms to teach their philosophy.

Philosophy of Art

Philosophy is the Art of determining the Truth (which requires many years of study of the great minds of human history) such that we may apply this Truth to life. Likewise, the greatest Art is founded on profound Truths that express the wonder and beauty of our relationship to the universe. As Ayn Rand and Henri Matisse write.

Art is a selective re-creation of reality according to an artist's metaphysical value-judgments। An artist recreates those aspects of reality which represent his fundamental view of man's nature. (Ayn Rand, 'Art and Cognition').

When we speak of Nature it is wrong to forget that we are ourselves a part of Nature। We ought to view ourselves with the same curiosity and openness with which we study a tree, the sky or a thought, because we too are linked to the entire universe. (Henri Matisse).

Our modern worldview, with its obsessive focus on Market Economics, Agriculture, and the Ego has allowed us to become isolated from our true connection with Nature, the Cosmos and our place in the Universe. With many people now living in cities it seems that we have lost our connection to Nature, and thus we have lost our true foundations for how we evolved to live (which is a disturbing thought for the future survival of life on Earth).

Though there have been many great artists and inspiring works of art throughout human history, no art has ever been founded on what truly exists, as this knowledge had not been known. The Postmodern belief in no Absolute Truth has detrimentally affected modern Art, resulting in artistic confusion, lack of meaning and decay.

Philosophy of Technology

The philosophy of technology is a philosophical field dedicated to studying the nature of technology and its social effect.

History:

Considered under the rubric of the Greek term techne (art, or craft knowledge), the philosophy of technology goes to the very roots of Western philosophy. In his Republic, Plato sees techne as the basis for the philosophers' proper rule in the city. In the Nicomachean Ethics (Book 6), Aristotle describes techne as one of the four ways that we can know about the world. The Stoics argued that virtue is a kind of techne based upon a proper understanding of the universe.

20th century development:

Whereas 19th Century philosophers such as Karl Marx were philosophically interested in tools and techniques, the most prominent 20th century philosophers to directly address modern technology were John Dewey and Martin Heidegger .Both saw technology as central to modern life, although (to speak roughly) Dewey was optimistic about the role of technology, Heidegger pessimistic. Dewey's work on technology was dispersed throughout his corpus, while Heidegger.'s major work on technology may be found in The Question Concerning Technology.

In the 1960's, Marshall McLuhan became a major radical voice in the field, with such works as the bestseller The Medium is the Message, as well as The Gutenberg Galaxy and Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man.

Contemporary philosophy:

Contemporary philosophers with an interest in technology include Jean Baudrillard, Albert Borgmann, Andrew Feenberg, Langdon Winner, Donna Haraway, Larry Hickman, Don Ihde, Paul Levinson, Carl Mitcham, Leo Marx, Gilbert Simondon, Jacques Ellul and Bernard Stiegler.

While a number of important individual works were published in the second half of the twentieth century, Paul Durbin has identified two books published at the turn of the century as marking the development of the philosophy of technology as an academic subdiscipline with canonical texts; these were Technology and the Good Life (2000), edited by Eric Higgs and American Philosophy of Technology (2001) by Hans Achterhuis.

Philosophy of religion is a branch of philosophy that is concerned with the philosophical study of religion, including arguments over the nature and existence of God, religious language, miracles, prayer, the problem of evil, and the relationship between religion and other value-systems such as science and ethics, amongst others.

Folk Psychology

Folk psychology (sometimes called naïve psychology, common sense psychology or vernacular psychology) is the set of background assumptions, socially-conditioned prejudices and convictions that are implicit in our everyday descriptions of others' behavior and in our ascriptions of their mental states. It includes concepts such as belief ("he thinks that Peter is wise"), desire ("she wants that piece of cake"), fear ("Alex is afraid of spiders") and hope ("she hopes that he is on time today"). Such ascriptions are collectively known as propositional attitude ascriptions.

There are so many philosophers and religious gurus(teachers) who are teaching about life or after death. Karl Marx called religion as 'opium'. This is right at many times. In Indian culture we found that people generally think about fate or luck and discussed about it. Some people are trust in luck except doings. When they feel some misery then they murmuring about fate or luck, they have no clear conception about fate and life. They are negative persons who are generally talking about luck except to do right thing or do their duty. So it is necessary for a human being to do their duty first and say about fate after that.

There are so many person who are used the word "if". If I have this, If I had did this, If I got it. These words are negative words for a happy life. Because in daily life we found so many things, we desire to get it, but it is impossible to get every things. For a happy life man must have clear conception of what he wants and what is the basic need of that person. If we all forget our innate qualities and needs, and follow the uncertain things like luxury goods and so on. It is very harmful for our daily life. Man must do his duty first, after desire to get things ,according to his capacity. आजकल हर छात्र के सामने एक ही प्रॉब्लम है कि वह कैसे अपने काम को कम से कम समय मे और अच्छे से पूरा करे। चाहे वो छात्र किसी भी विषय से हों , सबसे बड़ी समस्या यही है की उनको सही मार्गदर्शन नही मिल पाता है। उनको सही तरीके से विषय से रूबरू नही करवाया जाता है और न ही उनको सही राह मिल पाती है। यही सबसे बड़ी समस्या है की वे अपने काम को अच्छे तरीके से नही कर पाते जिससे की उनकी उस विषय पर पकड़ नही हो पाती जो वह पढ़ रहे हैं , कैसे हम फ़िर ईमानदारी की उनसे चाह कर सकते हैं। इसलिए आज की सबसे बड़ी यही जरुरत है हम इसके लिए भी सोचे । तभी हम बेहतर समाज की बातें कर सकते हैं ॥
