Future of Philosophical Counseling in India: An Overview
Abstract
Philosophical Counselling or Philosophical Practice is a contemporary movement in practical philosophy. Philosophical counselors support people who are distressed or confused by assessing their worldviews and helping them to refocus their emotions without using diagnostic labels or imposing clinical treatment plans. Philosophical counselling is an approach that aims to assist people to deal with life events in an effective manner. The approach utilizes both ancient and contemporary philosophical promises and theories. On the promise side, it offers the belief that philosophy can be concerned with providing answers to the question of how people ought to live a good or healthy life. On the theory side, it offers the belief that philosophical inquiry and theory can help people towards such answers. Thus the theory and practice of philosophical counselling is relevant to nurses whose practice aims to promote in their clients a good or healthy lifestyle. In India also, several philosophy organization and educational institute started their courses in philosophical counseling. In this paper, we will see the future perspectives of philosophical couselling in India and see how wide content these courses cover.
Note:
To be presented at Two-Day National Seminar on ‘Philosophical Counselling in the Context of Indian Society’ in collaboration with ICSSR NWR Centre on 19th and 20th September, 2023 at Department of Philosophy, KUK.

Presentation: Concept of Good Life in Indian Context
The good life is one in which what someone does and feels leads to and is constitutive of their fulfillment, also called happiness. Such happiness is neither primarily an experience; nor is it found as a consequence of following moral laws. Instead, happiness is fundamentally an activity: it is the state of the person who is living without hindrance the life that becomes a human being. The good life is the primary source of happiness. Lecture on "Why to Study Philosophy at UG Level ?"
Philosophy is the study of general and fundamental problems, such as those connected with existence, knowledge, values, reason, mind, and language. “The unexamined life is not worth living,” said Socrates, one of our most enduring philosophers and thinkers. Being able to think critically and independently is an important skill that is often taken for granted. The serious study of philosophy as a major can prepare you to excel in any number of distinct, rewarding, and challenging careers. Philosophy is a multifaceted subject that has endless depth and potential to study and learn from for years to come.

Lectures delivered in ICPR Workshop
ICPR Sponsored 7 Days Workshop on "Enhancing Research Skills in Philosophy-II" organised at ICPR Academy Centre, Lucknow from 16-22 October, 2019. It was a great pleasure for me that I delivered following lectures on 21-22 October, 2019 and got a good discussion by the participants of the workshop:
1. E-Learning and Philosophical Research-I & II
2. Positive Philosophy and Innovative Method
3. Discussing Philosophy and Philosophical Rsearch
4. Methods of Philosophical Inquiry in Upanishads
I think philosophy in India needs more programmes like this and there is need to rethink about philosophical research trends in India.
